John Gorup, M.D. has been providing highly advanced and specialized surgical spine care to Lafayette, Indiana and the surrounding communities since 1997.
Dr. Gorup attended Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, and completed his residency at the State University of New York Health Sciences, Center Downstate Medical Center of Brooklyn. He was North Central Indiana’s first fellowship-trained, board-certified orthopaedic spine surgeon, and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).

Before going to Dr Gorup I couldn’t walk without fear of falling. Dr. Gorup diagnosed the problem and performed surgery within 10 days. Hopefully I’m on my way to a full recovery, although he has informed me that it could take a couple of years.

Lori Kiefer, MD is dual board-certified in pain management and anesthesiology. She graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. She then attended Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she was awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree. After medical school, Dr. Kiefer completed her anesthesiology internship and residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. After several years practicing as an anesthesiologist in Bloomington, Indiana, serving in multiple leadership roles and as volunteer clinical faculty at IUSM, she decided to pursue further training in interventional pain medicine and completed her fellowship at IUSM.
Dr. Kiefer’s interests include minimally invasive techniques for treatment of joint, neck, and back pain that include traditional therapies like injections, nerve blocks, and ablations as well as advanced options like spinal cord and DRG stimulators, kyphoplasty, peripheral nerve stimulation (Curonix, Sprint, and ReActiv8), posterior SI joint fusion (Nevro and PainTeq), basivertebral nerve ablation (Intracept), intradiscal allograft supplementation (Via Disc), and minimally invasive lumbar decompression (Mild).

Daniel Kim, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon who specializes in complex spine surgery. He attended medical school and completed his neurosurgical residency at the Indiana University School of Medicine and Indiana University, respectively. Dr. Kim has a neurosurgical focus on disorders of the spine. He is interested in all aspects of spinal care, including: degenerative conditions, trauma, revision surgeries, deformity and spine tumors. He uses both open and minimally invasive techniques in the operating room, and he embraces the latest technology to make spinal surgery as safe and effective as possible. Dr. Kim has published on multiple neurosurgical topics and continues to be active with academic research. He currently serves as an editor for the International Journal of Spine Surgery.
In his free time, Dr. Kim enjoys the outdoors, barbequing, fishing and playing golf.
Dr Kim and his staff are AMAZING! I have been in terrible pain and have had very limited movement for years. On my first visit with Dr Kim we went over all of my issues and I ended up having surgery 3 weeks later. Immediately on waking up from surgery, I was able to move my arms fully! I hadn't done that in years! I am now almost 4 months post operation and have gained 97% of my strength and movement (per my PT testing) back. My life is forever changed!!! I have nothing but praise for Dr Kim and his staff! I was very scared to go through this procedure but I am so glad I did it!!!

Dr. Kim has been great. I have been to a dozen different doctors with no answers regarding my back pain.. diagnosed by Dr. Kim in my initial visit. Immediately scheduled for injections and subsequent surgery (successful).
Dr. Kim was extremely patient and took the time to truly listen to all of my concerns. He immediately discussed a clear plan to address my lower back pain, which gave me confidence from the very beginning. I live 2½ hours away and was referred to him by a family friend. After scheduling my surgery, I learned that another person had also recommended Dr. Kim to that same family friend. Jeffrey A. Konopka, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon. He is a native Hoosier and grew up in Greenwood, IN.He completed his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering at Purdue University and medical school from Indiana University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Initial visit was good, staff is courteous and kind. Dr. Konapka listened, was not condescending or patronizing, and did not discount any of my concerns. Initial outcome as well as could be expected, but better than many I have been to in the past.
Dr Konopka is clearly great technically in his field and, in addition, possesses a great bedside manner. Only a day now out from a 3-level anterior cervical diskectomy and fusion, I am feeling better than I expected. I would heartily recommend him to anyone.

Paul Kraemer, M.D., is a native of Iowa. Dr. Kraemer is a board-certified, fellowship-trained spine surgeon. He was educated at Cornell University in New York, The University of Iowa Medical School, and the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Orthopaedic Surgery residency program. He then spent an additional year at Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center/ the University of Washington in a combined orthopaedic and neurosurgical Spine Surgery fellowship.

In addition he is actively involved in research, resident education, and cross-specialty education of practicing physicians. As I had said prior before this, the patients need to know how to care for themselves pre-and post surgery far as their immune system healing process so they can be 100% better off pre-and post surgery. There are things out there that could’ve been used prior before my surgery to help my healing process. Be faster.
Kevin E. Macadaeg, M.D., a founding member of Indiana Spine Group, is a minimally invasive spine specialist focusing on spinal diagnostics and therapeutics. Ashwin Madupu, M.D. is board-certified both in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. He is a fellowship-trained interventional spine specialist and has received the latest training in non-operative therapeutic and diagnostic techniques used to treat all aspects of spine pathology.
Dr. Madupu graduated from Osmania Medical College, one of the most prestigious medical schools in India. Went in for an issue that might had been a connection to an earlier surgery. It was not but I had another concern and was sent for xrays and mri that day. They r awesome to work with.

Great experience. Spent 3 years with GC and got nowhere. GC staff was rude and hard to get a hold of. Generally had to drive 12 miles to their office to speak to them. Once ISG saw my MRI. The first thing they said was “why have you not had this fixed, you have to be in great pain”. I was. After two months and two surgeries. I am living life again. Thank you.

I recently visited Dr Miller to discuss a Sciatica Nerve issue. After an attempt to eliminate the pain, w/a steroid back injection, I had minimal pain relief. Dr Miller suggested a Laminectomy/Spinal Decompression. I agreed to the surgery. The BEST decision I've ever made. Dr Miller called me, at home over the weekend, to check on my recovery process. The best experience with a medical provider ever. Dr. Justin Miller and his entire staff were helpful, informative, and immediately responsive to phone calls and questions.
I’m hoping to share my story in case it helps! I was suffering debilitating sciatica, I showed up in their office unable to even sit in a chair. I was suffering with incredible pain that was progressing quickly. On the verge of tears, I shared my problems, and Dr. Miller listened so emphatically. I was fortunate to quickly qualify for a lumbar decompression surgery, and was very well informed and prepared on how recovery would feel. My experience in pre op and post op at the Indiana Spine Hosital was so personal, professional, and detailed. I felt very well cared for and personally noticed. Dr.Miller and his team were so great at communicating before and after surgery. My incision is so clean and healing incredibly well. I didn’t need any pain medication after one week post op and still don’t. Very grateful that I can now sit and drive, as I was completely debilitated before. This was life changing for me in every way. I feel like a new person. Thank you for serving in this capacity, Dr. , I can imagine you are so busy, and I want to thank you for the time you took to help me because I am truly eternally grateful. 🥲
Dr. Miller did a great job on my surgery. When I returned due to other pain he said he'd rather I tried non-surgery methods and that he would rather not do any more except as a last restort. He sent me to Dr. Arbuckle who did a lumbar facet rizotomy which helped a lot. I just had my second treatment and my back hasn't been this free of pain in several years. Thanks for Dr. Miller for his no more surgeries approach if other methods work.
Dr. Miller has done four of my five spinal surgeries and I wouldn’t let anyone else do my surgeries but him. I call him my gentle giant. He is so kind and caring about his patients but he’s also not afraid to talk to you about his concerns as well. He explains things so that you understand exactly what he needs to do and what to expect during the surgery and after as well. He is just the best in my book and I have recommended him to many. Five stars in my book for sure.
Dr.Miller has done 2 surgeries for me within a years span. He went above and beyond for me, always making sure everything was okay and taking care of anything that may of been needed. Zachary NaPier, M.D., FAAOS is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon. He received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Dartmouth College before attending medical school at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He completed orthopedic surgery residency at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA, one of the country’s top orthopedic and neurosurgical spine centers. Dr. NaPier underwent advanced spine training at the Harvard Spine Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Dr. NaPier built a successful community practice in Northern California prior to joining Indiana Spine Group. Dr. NaPier has extensive training and experience with cutting edge minimally invasive and motion preserving surgical techniques that create less postoperative pain, decreased soft tissue injury and blood loss, and faster recovery times. He is also skilled in complex reconstruction of spinal deformities, degenerative conditions, and failed back syndrome. Dr. NaPier has a specific expertise in prone transpsoas lateral interbody fusion (PTP LIF) and has presented and published his techniques in addition to teaching other surgeons. He is also a prolific researcher, having authored or co-authored many clinical and basic science manuscripts, presentations, and textbook chapters in addition to receiving grants from organizations including the Cervical Spine Research Society and Scoliosis Research Society.

I elected to have Dr. Napier perform a Lumbar Fusion surgery. It is fair to say I have experienced instant relief from the compressed/irritated nerve pain.
I am 19 days post-op and rebuilding from the nearly 5 weeks of inactivity due to the debilitating pain. Getting better a little every day it seems. On to Physical Therapy.

Dr. NaPier, MD is very personable and will listen to all the questions you have and get them all answered. I would definitely recommend him. He was a referral from immediate care. I really.liked him from the start. I am now recovering from surgery I had two weeks ago and just had my post op. Their surgery center in Fishers and the people there are really good at what they do down there. Well worth the travel.
Dr Napier is fantastic. He fused C5-C6-C7 in my spine. I was back to working at my computer after two days and off all medication in one week. That is a testament to a solid and precise surgery. My recovery is going great. I have the upmost confidence in Dr. Napier and would recommend him to others!

I've been unfortunate enough to have had alot of surgeries and by far this staff and Dr Napier are by far the best experience I've had hands down. Office is efficient friendly and your well being is the top concern. I was to the point that disability was going to be my only option which I was terrified of as I felt I would lose my house and everything if I was unable to work. My life now has become hopes of a promising 20 plus years into the future working and doing the things I enjoy.
