Brian Adams, M.D.

Brian Adams, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship-trained interventional pain physician. He completed a multidisciplinary pain fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2022. He is focused not only on providing advanced interventional techniques of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral spine but also in painful conditions involving peripheral nerves and joints. During his fellowship, he gained expertise on the latest innovations aimed at reducing pain while regaining physical function and quality of life.

Dr. Adams attended medical school at the Indiana University School of Medicine before completing his anesthesiology residency at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville.  He served as a chief resident his final year.  He is a board-certified anesthesiologist and practiced general anesthesia for seven years before focusing on pain management.  Dr. Adams pairs his training with a compassionate patient-centered approach to overcome chronic pain.

Dr. Adams lives in Bloomington with his wife and two children. He enjoys traveling the US and is an avid fan of Indiana University athletics.

Dr. Adams performs the following interventions, among others:

John Arbuckle, M.D.

John W. Arbuckle, M.D., is a minimally invasive spine specialist with Indiana Spine Group focusing on spinal diagnostics and therapeutics. He is board certified in anesthesiology and pain management. Dr. Arbuckle’s areas of medical interest include interventional pain management and degenerative spine disease.

Barrett S. Boody, M.D.

Barrett Boody, M.D. is a fellowship trained, board certified orthopedic spine surgeon. Dr. Boody provides comprehensive surgical care of spine for adults and adolescents, ranging from minimally invasive procedures to complex revision surgery.

He attended medical school at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed an orthopaedic surgical residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL, followed by a spine surgery fellowship at the Rothman Institute at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

While in his training, Dr. Boody developed a passion for education and continues it with his current practice at Indiana Spine Group.  He serves as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopedic Surgery at Indiana University, as well as, serving as core faculty for the Indiana Spine Group spine surgical fellowship, educating and training the next generation of spine surgeons.

Furthermore, Dr. Boody continues to stay actively involved in research, working closely with both physicians and companies to continually advance knowledge, technology, and techniques in spinal surgery.  Dr. Boody has authored over 80 peer-reviewed publications, books, and book chapters and routinely presents research findings at national and international symposiums. Dr. Boody has served as a Section Editor of Spinal Trauma for The Textbook of Spine Surgery, 4th Edition and currently is the Lead Editor for the textbook The Fellow’s Manual: A Technical Guide For Spine Surgery.  He is a member of the editorial board for the Clinical Spine Surgery journal and is a manuscript reviewer for multiple peer-reviewed spine journals to help ensure a high level of quality of published research available for the spine surgery community.  Additionally, Dr. Boody works alongside medical and surgical device companies in order to develop and improve the products and technologies spine surgeons use.  He has developed surgical instruments designed to remove challenging spinal hardware as well as serves as Principal Investigator on a national FDA trial conducted at the Indiana Spine Group, advisory boards for companies integrating new technology, and development teams for companies creating new spinal surgery products.

Dr. Boody believes that his research and education interests continually improve and enhance his clinical practice, enabling him to offer the most evidence-based, advanced treatment options to patients. “Ultimately, I believe the way spine surgeons stay at the forefront of spinal techniques, technology, and knowledge is to stay actively involved in education and research.  The surgical evaluation and treatment of my patients will always be at the core of what I do as a spine surgeon, and I am incredibly fortunate to have the ability at Indiana Spine Group to pursue my interests in medical education and research.”

Mario Brkaric, M.D.

Dr. Mario Brkaric is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, who specializes in spine. Dr. Brkaric graduated medical school and completed his residency at the State University of New York Health Sciences, Center Downstate Medical Center of Brooklyn. He went on to complete his fellowship in orthopedic surgery of the spine at William Beaumont Hospital. In 2010, Dr. Brkaric was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). With both national and international recognition, Dr. Brkaric is the author of numerous articles published in peer-reviewed medical journals.

Since 2006, Dr. Brkaric has been serving individuals and their loved ones from Lafayette, Rensselaer, and Logansport. Dr. Brkaric offers several surgical and non-surgical approaches for the treatment of the musculoskeletal system, including bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves. His areas of expertise include spinal deformity, degenerative conditions, spinal trauma, minimally invasive technology, and dynamic and motion preserving technology.

John B. Chambers, M.D.

Dr. John Chambers is a board-certified, fellowship trained Orthopedic Spine Surgeon who specializes in multiple aspects of adult and pediatric spine surgery for conditions such as scoliosis, trauma, disc herniations, spinal stenosis and degenerative conditions.  He has been providing both operative and non-operative spine care for the residents of southern Indiana for over 20 years.

Dr. Chambers began his post-graduate studies by earning a degree in Chemistry at Eastern Kentucky University where he graduated with honors.  He received his medical degree from the University of Louisville and was elected to the Alpha Omega Honor Society for academic achievement. He completed an internship in general surgery and his residency in orthopedic surgery at the Medical College of Georgia.  While in Georgia, he served as a certified ring physician for United States Amateur Boxing as well as a ringside physician for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He advanced his training by completing a fellowship in spine surgery at the Leatherman Spine Center/Spine Institute for Special Surgery offering him the opportunity to work and train with several world-renowned leaders in spine health and surgery.  His research and writing of orthopedic and spine topics has resulted in publications and presentations at major meetings.

Dr. Chambers remains an avid sports enthusiast and athlete having completed dozens of Ironman triathlons.

Neil D. Farren, M.D.

Neil D. Farren, M.D. is board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine. Dr. Farren is a fellowship-trained interventional spine specialist and has received the latest training in non-operative therapeutic and diagnostic techniques used to treat all aspects of spine pathology.

Dr. Farren is a native of Philadelphia, PA and came to Indiana for his undergraduate education at DePauw University.  He then received his master’s in biology from IUPUI before spending 3 years in the biomedical engineering field.  During that time, he worked on development of catheter technology for interventional cardiology, publishing multiple peer-reviewed papers on the topic.

Dr. Farren attended Indiana University School of Medicine.  He completed his intern year at Ascension St. Vincent and his anesthesia residency at Indiana University School of Medicine.  Following residency, he completed his interventional pain medicine fellowship at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where he received the latest training in non-operative spine care.  He has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at regional and national conferences on interventional spine care.

Outside of medicine Dr. Farren enjoys spending time with his twins and wife.  He enjoys ice hockey, golf, and being outside whenever he can be.

Emily Frank, M.D.

Emily K. Frank, MD is a board-certified internal medicine physician with over two decades of experience in the practice of inpatient and outpatient medicine.  Her initial role at Indiana Spine Hospital will encompass preoperative optimization as well as direction of all inpatient care.

Dr. Frank is a lifelong resident of Indianapolis and received her medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at St. Vincent Indianapolis Hospital.  In addition to her medical training, Dr. Frank is a classically trained chef as well as a yoga instructor.  She has three adult children; Molly, Abby and Nate as well as two opinionated dogs named Gene and Piglet.

 

Robert Funk, M.D.

Robert D. Funk, M.D.is a fellowship-trained, double board-certified minimally invasive spine specialist. Dr. Funk has extensive training in advanced non-operative interventional techniques of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine and is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine.

Dr. Funk is an Indianapolis native and attended Indiana University School of Medicine. He then completed residency and fellowship at the University of Michigan, recognized as one of the top training institutions in the country. During residency, he was elected chief resident highlighting his commitment to excellent clinical care, leadership and positive professional interaction.

After residency, Dr. Funk completed a pain medicine fellowship involving extensive experience with spine and ultrasound-guided interventions. This specialized fellowship training and his focus on continuing education allow him to offer the latest in safe, proven interventional techniques for all types of spine pain.

Jonathan P. Gentile, M.D.

John Gorup, M.D.

John Gorup, M.D. has been providing highly advanced and specialized surgical spine care to Lafayette, Indiana and the surrounding communities since 1997.

Dr. Gorup attended Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana, and completed his residency at the State University of New York Health Sciences, Center Downstate Medical Center of Brooklyn. He was North Central Indiana’s first fellowship trained, board-certified orthopaedic spine surgeon, and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).

Dr. Gorup’s professional dedication, highly technical skills, and extensive clinical training has earned him many accolades, including international recognition for his work and numerous articles published in peer-reviewed journals. In addition, Dr. Gorup sits on the teaching faculty and product development teams for some of the world’s largest spinal implant manufacturers.
