Brian Adams, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship-trained interventional pain physician. He completed a multidisciplinary pain fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine in 2022. He is focused not only on providing advanced interventional techniques of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral spine but also in painful conditions involving peripheral nerves and joints. During his fellowship, he gained expertise on the latest innovations aimed at reducing pain while regaining physical function and quality of life. Shah Ahmad MD, MPH is a neurosurgeon, dual-trained in both Orthopedic and Neurosurgical spine, and is a member of the Indiana Spine Group. His expertise is in the management of degenerative diseases of the cervical and lumbar spine through minimally-invasive techniques, as well as deformity surgery and spinal cord tumors.
Dr. Ahmad attended Cornell University, obtaining degrees in neuroscience and business. He then attended the University of Arizona for his MD degree as well as his Masters of Public Health. From there he went on to complete a seven-year Neurosurgery residency at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, one of the top training programs for complex and minimally-invasive spine surgery. He then completed a sub-specialized fellowship in Orthopedic Spine Surgery under Dr. Rick Sasso at the Indiana Spine Group.
Dr. Ahmad’s research interests are peri-operative pain management and clinical outcomes for patients undergoing different types of open and minimally-invasive spine procedures. He has published over 25 articles in some of the most impactful international journals in spine and cranial surgery, as well as authored textbook chapters in a number of neurosurgery textbooks, such Youmans Neurological Surgery. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery.
Cannot recommend Dr. Ahmad enough. He treated my concerns seriously and thoroughly. When the images showed no need for surgical intervention, he was honest and gave me recommendations on next steps for treatment.
Dr. Ahmad is a talented, amiable and, personable neurosurgeon. His staff is also, friendly, competent and efficient. It was a great experience working with Dr Ahmad and his team.
He did a spinal fusion for me yesterday, and my sciatica is gone and I'm able to walk normally again.
I'm quite comfortable and am only taking a muscle relaxant and acetaminophen as a precaution but have not needed anything stronger, so far.
I highly recommend Dr Ahmad. I came to Dr Ahmad from Asheville North Carolina for my surgery. It was worth the traveling and I'd do it again if I had to.
It’s now been 3 months since my surgery and I had my second tele-health follow up with Dr. Ahmad. I’m now off all activity restrictions. My sciatica is just an unpleasant memory now. I haven’t had even the slightest hint of it.

I couldn't stand or walk for no more than ten minutes before having to stop and sit down because of severe sciatic nerve pain due to pinching of the nerve. Had shots in my back because of the pain . Not the first time and always worked before. I would highly recommend Dr Boody, Julie, Courtney and all of this staff to anyone that is looking to get there back/spinal issues taken care of. They are all professional to deal with and has simply been great to me.
Dr. Booty is amazing!!! He explains everything in a way that I can understand, he is thorough, knowledgeable, and has compassion for his patients. I call him Superman!!! Now on the other hand his nurse practitioner Julie she is like a drill sergeant that only cares about a check in the box with no compassion at all. When I was discharged my medication was sent to my pharmacy so I can pick them up. I was discharged around 6:30pm and it took us over an hour to get home. One of the prescriptions Methocarbamol 1000 mg wasn’t filled because the pharmacy doesn’t have 1000 mg nor will my insurance pay for it. So the pharmacy tries to reach out to Julie Moser because she wrote the prescription but the contact information that the pharmacy had was incorrect for Julie. So I called my doctors office that evening and left them a message for them to rewrite my prescription. So night number one at home was horrible I was in so much pain because I didn’t have my needed medicine.
Absolutely amazing! I would highly recommend Dr. Boody to anyone who is suffering from spinal pain/injury. He listens intently and lays out the options while explaining the pros and cons of each. He treated me…. Not just my injury, but made eye contact, listened to my questions and concerns and helped form a plan of action that is in MY best interest. After years in the Fire service and Active Duty military, I’m used to a more general approach. My neck had endured much trauma from both occupations. Dr. Boody individualized my care plan while maintaining a very professional stance on care. I wasn’t just a number, I was his patient, and he is dedicated to achieving the best possible outcome for me.
Dr. Boody and Julie NP were amazing! After injuring my back moving furniture, I was having severe nerve pain and weakness in my left leg for several weeks. I could not stand up straight and could barely walk. My nerve pain was constantly 8/10 and there was no position where I could find relief. They worked very hard to get my surgery scheduled sooner rather than later; Julie spent lots of time on the phone with my insurance company to push things through more quickly. Immediately after surgery, my nerve pain was GONE. Zero pain! I am 4 weeks post surgery now and I feel great. Almost 100% back to normal. I am so grateful for their care !!!

Everyone start to finishes I’m trusting that the pain I’m having in back and neck k is apart of the healing process as I was told, but it almost feels like a plate or screw is snagging on something inside. I know that’s not true. It’s just the feeling I have and by the end of the day it feels like I’ve been standing on concrete all day, my whole back aches is that part of my spine because my posture is better I don’t know. I do know I was released to go back to work as usual and at 61 it’s not like I’m running a marathon. I’m just doing day-to-day task.
I’m also a little concerned that the scar and what feels like scar tissue underneath will never go down. My surgery was On April 15 today is June 30
I’m a repeat offender as Dr. Brkaric has operated on me multiple times. He’s the best. From the first visit, MRI, results, scheduling, surgery and follow up, everyone is top notch and first class. I wouldn’t trust anyone else to get me back to being healthy.

Dr. Farren is a native of Philadelphia, PA and came to Indiana for his undergraduate education at DePauw University. Dr. Farren is amazing. He’s kind, down to earth, and extremely knowledgeable. I had suffered terrible jaw pain and facial nerve pain for over 10 years. I was dismissed by many doctors, and went through painful PT, expensive mouth guards, and random meds to no avail. It was debilitating pain during the flares. Dr Farren had a good idea it was trigeminal neuralgia right from the start. I had a quick injection over 4 months ago and have had zero pain since that day. I have so much relief knowing if it comes back, I can get another injection.
I’d recommend this provider 100%! If only I’d found him 10 years ago.
Dr. Farren is one of the sweetest doctors you will meet. I came from OrthoIndy after having three back surgeries. These surgeries have left me scarred and scared, which had caused post traumatic stress with anything to do with my back. They don't argue with me about sedation or make me feel like I'm seeking. They take my anxiety seriously and always provide the upmost service and care. They try everything in their arsenal before jumping to surgery, which is nice. Dr Gerlach is the best. I just had a 4 level lumbar laminectomy in August and 6 weeks after surgery I am pain free and the recovery was a breeze. Dr Gerlach is a great spine surgeon he fixed my back and I was back to work in 8 weeks. I feel like a new man if you are looking for a spine surgeon I know he will help you. Very professional. He listens and he is great at understanding your situation.
My third opinion was the best choice, by far. Dr. Gerlach's skill helped me avoid spinal fusion for my sciatica. Both local recommendations were for fusion. Dr. Gerlach offered lumbar laminectomy and microdicectomy to fix my problem. His surgery was less invasive and 80% of his surgeries are out-patient; whereas, fusion would have required days of a hospital stay. I was thrilled at his offer and could not be more pleased with the outcome. After reviewing my MRI prior to surgery, he noticed issues on the opposite side of my spine. He fixed both sides in the same surgery. I went home the same day, thanks to Maddie's early morning scheduling at Lucas Family Brain and Spine Hospital. The sciatica was gone within the first week. He gave us excellent pre- and post-surgery instructions based upon his research and experience. After 3 weeks, I can walk 2-4 miles per day pain-free. I am forever grateful to Dr. Gerlach and his team for this new lease on life. I highly recommend him for anything spinal. Dr. Gerlach is Indiana's SCIATICA SLAYER.
Dr Gerlach is the most wonderful doctor. He always answers my questions without rushing. He's been nothing but honest about my condition since my first visit with him. I had complete trust in him and the outcome of my surgery. Anyone with a back problem should see him. I wish all doctors cared about their patients as much as he does.
Dr. Gerlach is an incredible practitioner who not only fixed me but I truly feel advocated for me and was open and honest about my condition and true options and treatment plan. When it came to execution, he was even more impressive going above and beyond with me and my set of conditions.
